David L. Rosenfeld, MD founded the Division of Human Reproduction at North Shore University Hospital in 1976. Dr. Rosenfeld served as Chief until fall 2011 when he resigned from his administrative duties.  To his delight, and his patients’, Dr. Rosenfeld continues to help build families at the Center for Human Reproduction.  Under his leadership, the Center for Human Reproduction has helped bring more than 25,000 babies into this world.

Dr. Rosenfeld completed undergraduate training at Princeton University and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Vienna. He received his Medical Degree and postgraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania, and was among the first doctors in America to be certified as a specialist in reproductive medicine.

Dr. Rosenfeld is responsible for opening the first fertility clinic and advanced endoscopy center on Long Island.  He recently served as President of the New York Obstetrical Society and is an active member of numerous professional and scientific societies. In addition, Dr. Rosenfeld is the author of many publications on his specialty. Dr. Rosenfeld is a Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine at Hofstra University. Vitality spoke to Drs. Rosenfeld and Chu on the joy of discovering that their patient was one of the first babies conceived at our Center.  Robert Borland returned to our Center with his wife, Beth, they left with two healthy and beautiful twins.  Dr. Rosenfeld says of the experience: "Madeline Borland was one of the center's first patients, and her son Robert was therefore one of the first babies to be born under my care.  Now 35 years later, I had the humbling opportunity to be involved in the growth of this sweet family, helping Robert and his wife conceive their own children.  This makes me a 'grandfather,' and it's a phenomenal feeling."
