In addition to being Board Certified in both OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology, each infertility specialist holds an academic appointment at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine. Our New York infertility specialists have extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Each infertility specialist completed a two year Fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. This training includes extensive clinical and research experience culminating in both written and oral examinations.

Avner Hershlag, MD -Director, Donor Egg Program and Laboratory Services

Medical Director, Assisted Reproductive Technologies (In Vitro Fertilization Program) Avner Hershlag, MD, is Director of the Donor Egg Program and Fertility Laboratories as well as Medical Director of the In Vitro Fertilization Program. Dr. Hershlag completed his undergraduate training in his native country, Israel, and graduated from the Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem. While in medical school, Dr. Hershlag was elected Director of Medical Education of the International Federation of Medical Students Society. Following three years of a General Surgery residency at Hadassah, Dr. Hershlag moved to the United States in 1984. Here, he completed his OB/GYN residency at the George Washington University Medical Center and a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Hershlag is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Hershlag is the author of over fifty original papers and 25 book chapters. The recipient of several awards, he is actively engaged in multiple research projects.

Matthew A. Cohen, MD -Attending Physician at Forest Hills

Matthew A. Cohen, MD, is a graduate of Columbia College and received his Medical Degree from the Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale, he spent his last 18 months of training doing intensive research at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Cape Cod; the Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem; and the Israel Institute of Biology. He completed his OB/GYN residency at Harvard University and his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Columbia University. He is the author of numerous research papers in the fields of physiology and reproductive endocrinology. Dr. Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Cohen has a special interest in Jewish law as it relates to menstruation and sexual relations within marriage— known as taharat hamishpacha (family purity) or the laws of nidda. He attended Yeshiva from nursery through high school, with an additional year in an Israeli Yeshiva prior to attending college. During his years as an undergraduate, he spent his summers studying with rabbinical students from Yeshiva University, and has served as a course director for an international symposium in Jerusalem on women’s health and Jewish law.
