Oftentimes it is possible to use the infertility surgical procedure "hysteroscopy" to treat infertility. Hysteroscopy is an outpatient procedure performed using a small telescope which is inserted through the cervical canal after it has been dilated.
The hysteroscope is attached to a video camera enabling complete examination of the uterine cavity. The hysteroscope can diagnose and treat abnormalities leading to both infertility and/or miscarriages. These include polyps, fibroids, scar tissue and congenital uterine anomalies. Hysteroscopy, like laparoscopy, is considered a minimally invasive procedure and typically the patient can be back at work the following day.
