The board certified infertility specialists at North Shore Long Island Jewish Center for Human Reproductive have extensive experience successfully managing donor egg cycles. This experience enables our Long Island NY fertility centers to produce success rates that exceed the national averages.
In most cases, the donor will be unknown to you and will
remain anonymous. She will be chosen by you and your
partner with our assistance, from a pool of healthy young
women, 21-32 years of age. In some cases, you may have
a relative or a friend willing and potentially suitable to
donate their eggs to you.
Egg donors are screened by the Donor Egg Team.
Screening includes a thorough history and physical exam;
genetic testing; testing for infectious diseases, including
STDs, HIV and hepatitis, and drug screening. Thorough
psychological testing is followed by an interview with a
psychologist. Once the donor passes the screening process,
you will be able to review the results of the testing and
make the final decision.
The actual IVF egg donation cycle will follow next, with the
donor receiving fertility drugs (FSH) and being monitored by
ultrasound and blood tests.
You will be treated with medications to prepare your
uterine lining for the embryos to be transferred.
Once the
donor’s eggs show signs of maturity, she will undergo egg
retrieval, where her eggs are aspirated from the ovarian follicles under anesthesia.
Our laboratory personnel will use your partner’s sperm
to fertilize the eggs "in vitro", and embryos will thus be created.
Several days later, after the embryos mature they will be transferred into the uterus. Sometimes excess embryos can be frozen (cryopreserved) for future cycles.
The remarkably high pregnancy rates achieved with donor
eggs has made this a popular option for many couples. Usually, the success rates for a donor egg cycle match the donor's age group. This means that if a 22 yr. old donor is used in a cycle for a 40 yr. old recipient the success rates equal the 22 yr. old age group. Read more about or Long Island New York fertility center.
